The man Governor Vilsack appointed as Iowa’s new director of the Departmentof Cultural Affairs is winning national recognition for his playwrighting.Dan Hunter’s play, “Un Tango en La Noche” (NO-chay), was chosen from hundredsof entries as winner of the American College Theatre Festival Short PlayAward. That name means “A Tango in The Night.” It’ll be performed at theKennedy Center in Washington D-C next month. Hunter says the play is basedon Mexican folklore about a crippled old man who is unleashed into a worldof memory to dance the tango with his one true love. Hunter says he’sthrilled at winning the national prize.Hunter is donating his thousand-dollar prize to a Boston theatre where hestudied — and to La Casa Latina in Sioux City and the Multi-Cultural Centerof Muscatine. Besides being a recently-named state administrator, Huntercalls himself a playwright, poet, singer and composer.
