A computer virus is hitting Iowans that is potentially damaging to acomputer, and it can embarrass the computer user too. The virus comes as an e-mail attachment with the title “AN IMPORTANT MESSAGEFROM:” Once opened, Dan Budah of the Central Iowa Computer UserGroupexplains what the virus does.Once opened, the system is infected, and documents opened in MicroSoft Wordwill automatically be sent as e-mail attachments to everyone in youraddressbook. It may also do the same thing with up to 50 old documents.Budah says it can make for some touchy situations if ignored, though he saysthere are easy fixes available for free. The virus, known as “Melissa,” wasreported in the state capitol complex today.
