Governor Vilsack wants to make another 12-thousand Iowa kids eligible forgovernment-financed health insurance, but Republican legislators say no. There’s a new state-run program which provides health care coverage to poorIowa kids whose parents are working, but can’t afford the insurancepremiums. Vilsack wants to raise the income level cut-off so more kidscould participate. Senate President Mary Kramer, a republican from West DesMoines, is employed by WellMark, which used to be Blue Cross, Blue Shieldof Iowa. Kramer says it’s time to fix the government-run health careprogram for poor kids rather than make MORE kids eligible. A reportreleased today highlights some flaws, according to Kramer. Kramer says theprogram won’t succeed until those enrollment barriers are eliminated.
