Republican legislators plan to spend 10-million dollars over the next twoyears to fix-up a major building on the Iowa State Fairgrounds. The open-airVaried Industries Building can no longer be fixed on a “band-aid basis”according to Senate Republican Leader Stewart Iverson of Dows.Representative Steve Sukup, a republican from Dougherty, calls ita “blue ribbon” proposal.Senator Mary Lou Freeman, a republican from Alta, says for thefifth-consecutive year, legislators will also give each of Iowa’s countyfairs 10-thousand dollars.The Varied Industries Building on the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moineswas constructed in 1911 and offers 115-thousand square feet of displayspace. The Iowa State Fairboard will raise the other four-million requiredfor the building’s renovation.
