The NATO bombings in Yugoslavia have particular meaning for a Clarionresident. Denny Arifi runs a restaurant in the north-central Iowa town now,but he was born in Macedonia, which borders Kosovo. Arifi says he’s tryingto keep in contact with his family in the war-torn region.Arifi says the civil war has been underway in the region a very long time;he says the U-S people are just now finally learning about it because ofcover-ups by the Yugoslav government.He says the allied efforts are not accomplishing much.The U-S is sending another 50-million dollars in humanitarian aid to helpthe growing refugee crisis around Kosovo. The U-N says 130-thousand ethnicAlbanian refugees have fled Kosovo into nearby countries in the past weekand could face starvation in less than two weeks.
