Governor Vilsack pledges to veto a bill which would establish English asIowa’s official language, but House Republican Leader Brent Siegristsoon schedule House debate of the bill.The Iowa Senate has passed the bill and it’s cleared a House committee,leaving the full, 100-member House as its final legislative hurdle before thebill reaches the governor’s desk. Senate President Mary Kramer, arepublican from West Des Moines, says there’s too much passion over the billthat says the state is going to conduct its business in English.The other part of the bill establishes a welcome center for new Iowans.
