A spokesperson in the state treasurer’s office says the state-run collegesavings program has exceeded expectations in its first six months. Theprogram allows parents or relatives to save up to two-thousand dollars eachyear for a potential student. Spokesperson Karen Sinclair says they expecteda slow start in the first year, but got over six thousand applications withover 10 million dollars invested.She says there was a rush to get into the program at the end of December totake advantage of the Iowa tax break.Sinclair says they’ve been able to process all the applications without manyhitches.To find out more about the College Savings Iowa program, you can contact thestate treasurer’s office.
