Legislators plan to expand court-ordered mediation to decide child custodyand visitation issues in a divorce case. Such mediation is an option now ineastern Iowa’s sixth judicial district, which includes Tama, Benton, Linn,Jones, Iowa and Johnson counties. A bill which cleared the House this pastweek will serve as the guide for expanding the program statewide next year.Representative Dan Boddicker, a republican from Tipton, says steering childcustody and visitation to a mediator is best for the child.Boddicker believes mediation saves some marriages which are heading todivorce.Senators will review the divorce mediation bill over the summer.
