More than 13-hundred Iowans are going to have free work done on their homesto make them more energy-efficient. The U-S Department of Energy is forwarding nearly 3-million dollars to theIowa Weatherization Assistance Program which serves low-income and elderlyIowans. Barb Ashton is a community service administrator for the project inDes Moines and says the homes will be tested & services may includere-insulating, adding ceiling fans, tuning up or replacing heating & coolingsystems..and more. Ashton says it makes the homes more energy efficient &easier to afford by lowering heating & cooling bills by 20-percent onaverage. She says 13-hundred-29 homes statewide will get the work this year.
