Iowans are being urged to forget their troubles for a moment, take pen inhand, and “adopt” a U-S soldier who’s involved in the Yugoslav mission. IowaSenator Chuck Grassley says the letters would do a world of good for morale.Grassley says there are a few different addresses people can use. For landforces the address is: Operation Allied Forces, APO AE 09397. For personelaboard ships the address is: Operation Allied Forces, APO AE 09398. Grassley says he supports Governor Vilsack’s effort to bring war refugeesfrom the Yugoslav region to Iowa, but Grassley says he also supports thecurrent U-S policy that stipulates any Kosovars be sent home, not here.But Grassley says if Kosovars are unable to return to their homes, theyshould be welcomed to Iowa. He says up to 20-thousand refugees may come tothe U-S, out of which, perhaps 200 would settle in Iowa,Moves by then-Governor Ray brought 20-thousand Southeast Asians to Iowa twodecades ago. Grassley is holding public meetings today in: Chariton, Albia,Oskaloosa, Eddyville and Ottumwa.
