The University of Iowa has landed two U-S Army contracts worth overone-and-a-half million dollars for a unique machine which tests drivingskills. Professor L.D. Chen is director of the National Advanced DrivingSimulator or NADS. Chen says it may change Iowa’s technological future.The computerized-simulator allows researchers to develop better highwaydesigns and better vehicles — without building expensive prototypes.The project involves researchers from medicine engineering, and otherfields. Chen says NADS will attact over 46-million dollars in research spending inthe coming year.
