While most consumers are looking for ways to save money on their electricbills, some Cedar Falls residents are actually volunteering to pay more.Customers of the city-owned utility now have the option of paying an extratwo dollars and fifty cents each month on their utility bill. The extramoney helps support a new wind turbine electric generating facility inAlgona. Utility marketing director Doris Kelley says Cedar Falls is one ofseven cities who got together to build the wind utility. She says the contribution is voluntary.Kelley says support has been strong with over 600 people signing up.Kelley says the three wind turbines produce enough energy to power around400 homes.
