Senators have refused to go along with gambling restrictions endorsedyesterday by the Iowa House. The Senate voted 30 to 19 to reject the House-passed proposal which wouldimpose an immediate five-year freeze on gambling expansion in Iowa. Themeasure sought to ease gambling taxes on the state’s race track casinos,too. The bill also cracks down on casino credit, barring ComCheck serviceswhich offer credit card loans up to the limit. Senator Mary Lundby, arepublican from Marion, says there’s no legislating common sense.Senator Ken Veenstra, a republican from Orange City, says it’s time for morerestrictions to address the problems created by gambling.
