Iowa lawmakers took time out on Tuesday to honor the Des Moines Buccaneershockey team. After setting a United States Hockey League record forvictories during the regular season, the Bucs claimed the Clark Cup playoffchampionship last Friday by defeating Omaha in six games. RepresentativeMike Cataldo of Des Moines read a special proclamation to the team and itsfans.Bucs head coach Scott Owens addressed legislators on behalf of the team.This weekend, the Bucs open defense of their national championship when thetournament opens in Lincoln.The national tournament will bring to a close the four-year run of Owens ascoach. Over the weekend he was named the new head coach at Colorado College.
