The founders of a successful Independent pro baseball league are looking ata number of Iowa cities for a new league. Steven Lychowyd andMiles Wolff helped to establish “The Northern League” years ago. The newleague would be called “The Northern Lite” league and would act as a feederto the “Northern League”. Mason City, Ames, Waterloo and Dubuque have beenapproached about their interest. Mason City did have a pro team in 1994known as the BATS, but folded after 46-games. John Skipper served as GeneralManager of the BATS and believes the city lacks the population base andfacility to make it work right now.Skipper says play in the new league could begin next year. For now he saysthe focus is on finding cities. The “Northern League” includes a franchise in Sioux City.
