Iowa State University has signed an agreement to finally use the idleNational Swine Research Center on the Ames campus. The federal governmentbuilt the nine-point-six million dollar center but never provided the fundsto operate it. The 20-year agreement is with the Agricultural ResearchService — the scientific research agency of the U-S Department ofAgriculture. ISU spokesperson Carol Bradley says the university has nevergiven up hope the center would become a reality.The agreement says innitial work will focus on ways to reduce hog odor whileincreasing feed efficiency, reproduction and growth. Bradley says thecooperation of several organizations led to the agreement.The 52-thousand square foot building was completed in 1998.
