It may be hard to convince some Iowans, but State Climatologist HarryHillaker says May has been just slightly wetter than normal. Hillaker saysfour-point-six inches of rain has fallen on the state thus far — aboutsix-tenths of an inch above normal. Hillaker says those hit by floodingmight not agree with that assessment, but it’s based on astatewide average. He says northwest Iowa had half the average amount of rainfall.Hillaker April and May together are the sixth wettest.He says June is normally the wettest month of the year in Iowa be believesthis June won’t live up the averages.Hillaker says the drier June should let some of the wettest areas of thestate dry out.
