Traffic lights have a new glow in the Mississippi River town of Clinton.More than two-thousand incandescent light bulbs behind the red, green andyellow lenses have been replaced with a new type of lighting technology –L-E-D’s or light emitting diodes. John Gilman is spokesman for AlliantEnergy which worked with the city of Clinton to upgrade the traffic lightsat 71 intersections. The switch to L-E-D traffic lights is expected to cut power bill costs forthe city of Clinton.Gilman says the new L-E-D lights will last longer, use less energy and beeasier to see. Clinton is one of the first, if not THE first Iowa communityto use the new technology on a wide scale.
