Four Iowa sheriffs have resigned this year, citing stress as at least part ofthe reason. The latest to quit is Jasper County Sheriff James Verwerswho’s ending 35 years in law enforcement.Sheriff Verwers says the rapid escalation of the meth problem is the biggestchange he’s witnessed in his years as a lawman.Other sheriffs who’ve quit this year include those in: Ida, Floyd and Howardcounties.
