A band of thunderstorms packing heavy wind and rain rumbled up fromsouthwest Iowa onto the eastern edge of the state this morning andafternoon. Linn County emergency management director Ned Wright says thestorms prompted them to set off the warning sirens around two o’clock.Wright says a tornado touchdown north of Cedar Rapids apparently washarmless.The daily pattern of storms and heavy rain have left the ground in manyareas saturated. Wright says that’s the case in Linn county. While there isa lot of standing water, he says there is NOT a danger of immediateflooding.The Jones County Sheriff’s Department also reported a tornado sighting thisafternoon between Anamosa and Martelle in eastern Iowa. There were otherreports of high winds blowing down trees in eastern Iowa in Benton and Scottcounty.
