Republican presidential candidate Elizabeth Dole has injected a new phrasein the campaign, calling herself a “courageous conservative.” Dole first used the new phrase during a Friday evening rally at the DesMoines airport. Dole’s “courageous conservatism” directly contrasts withthe Texas brand of “compassionate conservatism” Governor George W. Bush hasbeen peddling from Austin.Dole says she’s willing to “say it like it is, but Dole’s unwilling todescribe how her political philosophy differs from Bush’s “compassionateconservatism.”.About 75 people gathered at the airport to greet Dole when she landed in DesMoines. Dole, former Tennessee Governor Lamar Alexander and Ohio Congressman JohnKasich will be talking about ag policy today at the World Pork Expo on thestate fairgrounds.Dole will propose an end to inheritance taxes on family farms. She’lladvocate letting farmers get a 100 percent tax deduction for the costs oftheir health insurance premiums and she’ll express support for livestockprice reporting legislation.
