More research on making anhydrous ammonia useless to methamphetamine makersis a step closer to reality. An amendment offered by Senator Tom Harkin to the Senate Agricultureappropriations bill including 250-thousand dollars for the research haspassed a senate subcommittee. Harkin says the idea is to keep anhydrous aviable fertilizer for farmers while eliminating it as an ingredient in meth.Preliminary research on the subject is underway at Iowa State University andHarkin says the U-S-D-A is developing a proposal for more in-depth research.The bill containing the meth funding is now on its way to the full SenateAppropriations Committee and then the senate floor.
