Scientists and doctors from around the world are meeting in Iowa City todayfor the first-ever “International Conference on Prostate Cancer Research.”Organizers say the panelists for the four-day gathering are the best in thefield from Japan, Europe and the U-S.Dr. David Lubaroff is a University of Iowa professor of urology andmicrobiology. He is organizing the conference and is director of the U-of-IProstate Cancer Research Program which brings together expertise from 11departments. He says prostate cancer is the most common cancer for men and19-hundred Iowans will be diagnosed with it this year.Dr. Lubaroff says participants in the conference will attend lectures byleading experts on subjects ranging from prevention and tumor growth togenetics and heredity. He says 165-thousand new prostate cancer cases willbe identified nationwide this year.The conference is scheduled to conclude Sunday.
