The Algona Garrigan baseball team has moved into the all-time top tennationally in home runs by a team. In 32-games this season Garrigan haspounded out 66 home runs, ninth on the all time list ahead ofDecatur-Austin, Alabama, which had 65 in 1984 and Barrington, Illinois whichhad 65 back in 1986. Garrigan coach Gene Meister says more than anything itis result of players spending more time in the off-season trying to getbetter.Meister began coaching in the late 1960’s and says there is a reason morehome runs are being hit now. He says kids are more talented and have moreopportunity to improve their game through weight training and clinics. The all time record for a team is 105 home runs by a Kentucky high school in1992. Meister says his team won’t threaten that mark.
