Backers of two proposed amendments to Iowa’s constitution expect aboutfour-hundred-thousand Iowans to turn-out for tomorrow’s special election. Former Governor Terry Branstad backs the amendments which restrictlegislators’ taxing and spending authority.Branstad says there were 80-thousand requests for absentee ballots forearly voting in this contest.Backers of the amendments pushed for the June 29th vote rather thanscheduling the decision on a regular election day. Now, amendment backerslike David Stanley, chairman of Iowans for Tax Relief, are accusingamendment opponents of trying to depress turn-out.
