State air quality officials are issuing a warning to Iowa cities to paycloser attention to rules regarding asbestos removal as there have beenseveral violations recently.Brian Button is an air quality specialist with the Department of NaturalResources. He says the cancer causing asbestos isn’t something that shouldbe improperly handled.Button says cities must follow federal Clean Air Act regulations whenremoving asbestos.Button says asbestos hasn’t gotten as much attention as when it was firstrevealed to be a carcinogen. He says cities can get information on cleaningup asbestos from the D-N-R.
