Living History Farms is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Thefarms northwest of Des Moines are a living museum showing how farm lifedeveloped in the state. Spokesman Steve Davis says the farms were the dreamof the late Bill Murray, an Iowa State University professor from Ames. Things got started with an 1850’s farm and have grown from there with a1900’s farm and an 1875 town. The farms once stood alone away from DesMoines, but the suburbs have now grown out around the area. Davis says thefarms still have over 300 acres of land to expand on. The next project is a1950’s farm.Davis says tentative plans for the expansion are underway. Living HistoryFarms is holding several special events throughout this year, including 30cent admission July 30th after 5 pm.
