When the year two-thousand arrives, computers at the National WeatherService offices in Iowa will be ready — and will continue cranking out theforecasts. Meteorologist Jeff Johnson at the metro Des Moines office saysthe electronic gadgets have all been checked out.In a worst case scenario, if a major snowstorm hits on New Year’s Eve,Johnson says the radar screens will NOT go dark at midnight.He says the weather service has spent thousands of dollars to make suretheir computer systems are Y-2-K compliant.
