Davenport city officials are being sued over leaflets a Davenport couplewants to hand out at the city’s annual “Bix Biederbecke” celebration. Last year, James and Melissa Getman say Davenport police threatened toarrestthem for handing out leaflets during the Bix Street Festival. Iowa CivilLiberties Union Executive Director Ben Stone says the leaflets calledattention to the famous musician’s marijuana smoking.The Iowa Civil Liberties Union has filed suit in federal court, allegingthe couple’s free speech rights were trampled. Stone says they want to be able to hand out the flyers without beingarrested.
