The chairman of the U.S. House Budget Committee expects to help craft a farmaid package — soon. Ohio Congressman John Kasich was in Iowaover the weekend.Kasich says republicans believe the main outline of the Freedom to Farm Actshould remain intact, but Kasich says there is a need for supplementalassistance for the financial disaster farmers are experiencing.Kasich’s comments came during a Sunday appearance in Jewell as he concludeda “good-bye tour” of Iowa after dropping out of the presidential race. Kasich said he may return to Iowa to announce a plan to adjust farm programsto ensure family farmers can compete against corporate interests.Kasich envisions a “far-reaching” proposal.
