Ten years ago today United Flight 232 crashed onto an unused runway at theSioux Gateway Airport in Sioux City, killing one-hundred 12 people. Thismorning in Sioux City, a prayer service and luncheon reunited survivors,victims’ families, volunteers and rescue workers. Steve Harrington, directorof the Sioux City American Red Cross Chapter, says there are things plannedall day.Harrington says the goal is to get everyone who was involved ten years agoto talk about the loss and the experience. Harrington says many peopleinvolved voiced a need for a reunion like this.52-year old Joe Trombello of Appleton, Wisconsin was a passenger whosurvived the crash. He felt anger when he first heard there was a problemwith the plane.Trombello says the next thing he did was pray.He says being in the plane as it cartwheeled down the runway was like beinga shoe in a dryer. Reverand Gregory Clapper was the air guard chaplain at the time of thecrash. He says the experience made him a better counselor.Clapper had just become the chaplain for the guard two months before thecrash. He says dealing with the crash helped strengthen his faith.Flight 2-32 was enroute from Chicago to Denver when it crashed.One-hundred-84 people survived.
