Researchers at the University of Northern Iowa are studying two of Iowa’spolluted lakes through a 136-thousand dollar grant from the CarverFoundation. U-N-I chemistry professor Bill Stigliani hopes the findingswill improve the lakes’ conditions.Lake Casey and Silver Lake are the subjects of the research. Stigliani saysmuch of the pollution can be blamed on agriculture.Stigliani says Lake Casey is in okay condition, but Silver Lake is aconcern.The research team is made up of nine U-N-I faculty and 14 students fromvarious backgrounds. Stigliani says that’s beneficial in a project likethis.Stigliani hopes to turn this into a on-going study of Iowa’s lakes.
