Cedar Falls officials say the Cedar River has crested at a level higher thanearlier this year — and higher than the flood of ’93. American Red Crossvolunteers from across the country are converging on Iowa to help in floodrecovery efforts. Public relations specialist Kate Wiggins of Decatur,Illinois is in Waterloo handling calls from the media. Wiggins says a mix oflocal and national volunteers is fanning out across the flooded areas.She says there are 10 emergency response vehicles in the state with anotheron the way. Wiggins says the activities are being coordinated through theHawkeye Chapter’s office in Waterloo, but that will soon change.Wiggins says they don’t have figures yet on how many people may have beenhit by the flooding.
