Debate over an emergency farm assistance plan will come sooner, not later,according to Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley. He expects Senate action on a farmbailout package BEFORE Congress adjourns August 7th for its summer break.Grassley likely WON’T support democrat Senator Tom Harkin’s farm proposal.Grassley says the republican-sponsored plan would be just as “meaningful” asany others that’ve been offered.Grassley says the republican-backed package would cost somewhere between 7and 10 billion dollars. Harkin’s package is for 9-point-9 billion.The Senate takes up debate of a tax relief plan tomorrow which Iowa SenatorChuck Grassley says he’ll strongly support to help farmers, education,retirees and families. Grassley says many parts of the Taxpayers Refund Actare important to Iowa. Grassley says the measure is a responsible andcomprehensive approach to saving Social Security and Medicare while givingtaxpayers some money back.
