Weather continues to cause different problems for farmers at each end of thestate. The weekly state Agriculture Department report says farmers in the northernpart of the state face crops knocked down by high winds and hail. Andthere’s also the flooding in northern Iowa. At the other end of the stateit’s a lack of adequate rainfall that continues to plaque farmers and causeheat stress in crops. Contrast that with farmers in the middle of the statewho say their crops were helped last week by moderate rains. When all theconditions across the state are added figured in, the condition of cornremains unchanged. Seventy-three percent of the corn is reported inexcellant to good condition. The condition of beans also remained steadywith seventy-three percent reported in excellent to good condition. Thereport says the heat and high humidity did result in some cattle deaths.
