The Iowa Farm Bureau is joining the chorus of those who say agriculturalproblems nationwide have hit a crisis level. Farm Bureau President EdWiederstein (weed-er-steen) admits that’s a word the bureau doesn’t oftenuse — but says in this case it is justified. While many politicians are calling for changes in the Freedom to Farm Act,Weiderstein says the farm bill is NOT the problem. Weiderstein says somefarmers say they are in better shape this year because of Freedom to Farm.Weiderstein says he’s not against some enhancements of the Freedom to FarmAct that would open up foreign markets.Weiderstein says instead of debating whether the current farm bill isworking, politicians and others should look at how to help the system in thelong term.
