Police and school officials from all across Iowa are gathering in Ames todayto learn about bombs. The Ames Police Department is hosting a statewideconference on school violence — bomb threats in particular. Dr. JimmieOxley, the keynote speaker, is an explosives expert. She says beingprepared is the best way to handle bomb threats.Oxley says after a bomb threat is made, the next step is to find out who’sresponsible.Ames Police Captain Craig Reed organized the event and he says the trainingis providing a new perspective on response and prevention.Last spring, the Ames High School received eight bomb threats.
