The North Iowa School District has made what some are calling a miraculousfinancial turnaround. In 1996, The Buffalo Center-based district was600-thousand dollars in debt and formed a task force. This year, thedistrict reports a 400-thousand dollar surplus. Superintendent Larry Hillsays now that the school system is financially stable, the area’s leaderscan look at helping farmers and other property owners by lowering theproperty tax rate.Hill says the million-dollar turnaround in three years is something to beproud of, even though it wasn’t an easy process.Enrollment at the district in Winnebago County is expected to be 650 thisfall.
