A small Mississippi River town in Iowa’s far northeastern corner celebratesits heritage this weekend through a variety of water-based events. “LansingFish Days” runs through tomorrow with all sorts of odd-ball contests — likethe river race for any floating boat, raft or craft made from recycledmaterial.Mike Welsh is co-chair of Fish Days. He says people can learn all aboutLansing’s past through exhibits like one where they can make shiny buttonsout of clam shells. Welsh says there are all sorts of other fun andeducational booths.Besides racing recyclable rafts, Welsh says there’s another race that’s justfor kids — racing live fish.There are also duck races, water ski shows, a softball tournament and otherevents.
