Iowa State University football coach Dan McCarney says senior defensivelineman Clyde Sanders is academically ineligible for the upcoming season.Sanders started the first three games last year before suffering a kneeinjury that limited his playing time. McCarney says another player withacademic problems, junior fullback Jerome Heavens, has an outside chance ofrejoining the team. Heavens played in 11-games back in 1997 but enrolled in a junior collegelast fall to regain his eligibility. McCarney believes Sanders willtransfer to another school.McCarney says the Cyclones came out of two-a-day workouts the healthiestsince he has been coach. The chore now is to get ready for the Septembersecond opener against Indiana State.McCarney says no decision has been made on a starting quarterback. SageRosenfels and Derrick Walker are battling for the job and McCarney says itremains too close to call.
