Federal grants help fix low-income homes

Hundreds of Iowans in five cities who can’t afford the upkeep on their homesare getting grants today. The Federal Home Loan Bank is announcing grantstotalling 800-thousand dollars to low-income homeowners in Des Moines,Brooklyn, Iowa City, New Albin and Woodbine. The grants are to make what aretermed critical repairs. Pat Conway is president of the Federal Home LoanBank of Des Moines. He says today’s announcement was made outside a DesMoines home, where the recipient was elated to get the grant.The grants are broken down as follows: 475-thousand dollars to Des Moines,68-thousand-500 to Brooklyn, 200-thousand to Iowa City, 48-thousand to NewAlbin and 150-thousand to Woodbine.
