Five Iowa colleges and universities will share three-point-five milliondollars in federal grants to help train teachers to use technology.One-point-five million dollars goes to Iowa State University’s College ofEducation. Ann Thompson is one of the people who will put it to use.Thompson, a professor of curriculum and instruction, says there’s more totechnology use than switching on a computer.The U-S Department of Education’s goal in giving out the grants is to train400-thousand teachers nationwide.Other schools receiving grants: University of Northern Iowa,one-point-six-million; Clarke College, 147-thousand; Iowa Central CommunityCollege, 69-thousand; Iowa Western Community College, 52-thousand dollars. .
