Iowa First Lady Christie Vilsack says her husband may seek more than twoterms as the state’s Governor. During his 1998 campaign which yielded Tom Vilsack a first term in office,candidate Vilsack said he considered two terms as Governor — or eight yearsin office — as his limit. During taping of the Iowa Public Televisionprogram, “Iowa Press,” Mrs. Vilsack said her husband would “probably” beGovernor until he’s asked to leave. When pressed for details, she said shedoesn’t rule out anything. Mrs. Vilsack is a teacher who moonlights as ajournalist. She says the media scrutiny which candidates undergo probablydiscourages women from entering politics.Mrs. Vilsack says politicians have a right to a zone of privacy, but she’snot sure how to apply that standard in the case of Republican presidentialcandidate George W. Bush who’s been dogged by the media about his past.Mrs. Vilsack described herself as an equal partner in her husband’spolitical career, but said she has no interest in ever running for officeherself.
