Shipments are expected today to replenish Iowa’s supply of rabies vaccineafter all of the shots from several hospitals were used over the weekend. Apetting zoo in northeastern Iowa’s Clermont area was closed after a beardied of rabies on Friday. Kevin Teale, spokesman for the Iowa Department ofPublic Health, says the vaccine shortage is temporary.The Wild Midwest Petting Zoo in Fayette County was quarantined and closed.Up to 650 people may’ve been exposed. Teale says there may’ve even been afew foreign travelers in the batch of potential rabies victims who visitedthe petting zoo:Hospitals and medical supply centers that had depleted supplies of vaccineinclude those in: Des Moines, Waterloo, Mason City, Dubuque, Decorah, IowaCity and LaCrosse, Wisconsin.
