The Eighth U-S Circuit Court of Appeals in St. Louis has unanimously uphelda lower court ruling calling Iowa’s law banning so-called “partial-birthabortions” unconstitutional. The bill was signed into law in March of 1988,but has yet to take effect due to the legal challenge by Planned Parenthood.Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa President, Jill June, says the circuitcourt ruling uncovers the lie that certain legislators tried to put forthwith the law. June says the lawmakers said the law only banned partial-birthabortions but June says it tried to ban ALL abortions in Iowa. June says shewas confident the law would be found unconstituional.June won’t speculate as to whether this will be the end of attempts to get aPartial-birth abortion law in Iowa.
