Iowa’s two U-S Senators say they’ve worked out a plan to keep Iowa fromlosing five-million dollars in federal funding. Iowa was to lose the fundsfrom the Department of Health and Human Services for not meeting the federalgoals for the reduction of teen smoking. Senator Chuck Grassley says theplan would keep the funds coming this year.Grassley says Iowa would have to kick in two-point-one-million dollars ofstate funds to enforce teen smoking laws to keep the five-million dollars infederal funds. He says this would be a one year deal.Grassley, a republican, says they need to put together a long-term plan tohelp states reduce teen smoking.Iowa Senator Tom Harkin, a democrat, also help put the plan together. Harkinsays the plan is expected to be passed by the senate early next week.
