Governor Vilsack says it’s up to national party leaders and the NewHampshire legislature to resolve the chaos created by scheduling NewHampshire’s primary the day after Iowa’s Caucuses. Vilsack talked by phonewith New Hampshire’s Governor Monday afternoon.New Hampshire’s Secretary of State is unwilling to back away from hisdecision to set February 1st as the date for that state’s primary. Iowa’sCaucuses are scheduled the day before, on January 31st. Vilsack says he will not move the date of Iowa’s caucuses. Some suggest sanctions won’t be forthcoming because the eventual partypresidential nominees will NOT want to penalize any state, but Vilsackrejects that notion. Vilsack says having Iowa and New Hampshire’s contests back-to-back willcreate an additional burden on candidates who’ll have to try to be twoplaces at once.
