The officers that patrol the state capitol complex and Governor’s mansion are the latest to add portable defibrillators to their equipment list. The Capitol Police now have two of the machines that can deliver a shock to re-start the heart of someone in cardiac arrest. Major Royce Anthony leads the department and says all officers are being taught how to use those machines today (Friday). Anthony says officers have responded to 120 medical calls so far this year. He says his officers provide protection to what amounts to a small city. One of the defibrillators will stay in the department’s patrol car and the other is at the capitol building.
