A legislative committee directed to study ways to boost the use of ethanol fuel has decided NOT to support a statewide ethanol mandate. Instead, the group suggests a new tax shift so the corn-based fuel will be cheaper at the pump. Governor Vilsack hasn’t seen the committee’s report, but is willing to consider the idea. Vilsack is among those who have advocated a state law which would make ethanol the only fuel to be pumped — legally — from any Iowa gas station.
