The theory “global warming” is destroying the planet may not be all thataccurate, according to a visiting professor at the University of NorthernIowa. While some blame disasters like this past weekend’s Hurricane Irene on globalwarming, Arizona State University climatologist Robert Balling isn’tconvinced. He says the concentration of greenhouse gases is increasing, butso is the concentration of sulphur and dust that creates cooling. While teaching at U-N-I, Professor Balling says the build-up of carbondioxide may actually be helping plants grow & produce more oxygen. Ballingsays the planet is not approaching the boil-over stage. He says the sun isgetting warmer and some people are trying to say that’s greenhouse-induced.While greenhouse gases may be building up, Balling says other factors likethe thinning of the ozone layer are cooling things off, allowing theplanet’s temperature to remain fairly stable.
